Enter the Witcher, Geralt of Rivia.
The Last Wish, essentially, is a collection of short stories and the odd novella introducing a sellsword/monster-hunter, Geralt. Always brimming on brooding, the stories tell the dangerous, often lonely life of this witcher – an intelligent and interesting character, for sure – throughout the ups and downs and dark places of his career.
Speckled with compelling or entertaining supporting characters who come and go and add a little (and sometimes a lot of) spice, it makes for a good “on the road” sort of book, as it’s often easy to finish one particular story in short order and feel resolved when it has its end, only to pick it up again when you’re ready for another adventure.
If you enjoy Salvatore, or the video games based on this character, you will undoubtedly enjoy the tales. It’s a fascinating world filled with dangerous creatures, and sometimes even more dangerous friends.
